Wilmerding Days Redux

Achievement: #34. Wilmerding Days Re-Do

We here at 101 Achievements are all about second chances. If something doesn’t go right the first time we try it, we’ll give it another shot. This is true for restaurants where we aren’t blown away by our first visit, sold out events, and disastrous cooking attempts.

This year, we gave Wilmerding Days a second chance. The first try was back in 2015 (although we never got around to posting about it) for the 125th anniversary. What went so wrong there?

Wilmerding Days
It was… a little wet.

Wilmerding Days
Perhaps more than a little.

Okay, who am I kidding? I’m the Daughter of the Rain God; this is what our Wilmerding Days experience was like in 2015.

Wilmerding Days
(At the very least, I got to eat pierogies in the rain, which meant I could add a new photo to my Eating Food In The Rain photo album… because when you’re the Daughter of the Rain God, this is just kind of something that happens to you.)

But this year, despite Wilmerding Days falling in the same week as the Three Rivers Arts Festival, we got some awesome weather this time around.

Wilmerding Days
Wilmerding Days is held in early-mid June each year, and although the details of the festival may be a bit hard to find, I was able to unearth them from the Wilmerding Facebook page and plan our visit.

Wilmerding Days
We ended up going on Thursday, June 9th, otherwise known as the Night The Pens Were Supposed To Win The Cup. What better way to kick off an impending Stanley Cup win than with this amazing assortment of treats from Holy Angels Church in Wilmerding. Pierogies, hot dogs, hamburgers, fries… so delicious, and the people serving the food are sweet as can be.

Wilmerding Days
Tummies full, it was time to hit the games of skill. Wilmerding Days has a number of games for people of all ages and skill levels, which I, of course, forced husband to play.

Wilmerding Days
He won me two adorable little stuffed animals!

Wilmerding Days
And naturally, you can’t visit a fair in the park without getting a funnel cake! This cake was super hot and fresh, and just the right dessert to top off the dinner from Holy Angels.

Wilmerding Days
Funnel cake in our possession, we headed to the bingo tables to get in a few games. We didn’t win, but it was still fun to play (even if our cards were a little covered in powdered sugar, oops).

Wilmerding Days
If you’re on the more adventurous side, Wilmdering Days also has a variety of carnival rides. My nerves were shot enough as it was, worrying about the upcoming hockey game that night, so I didn’t even try to buy tickets. But everyone else there was having a blast.

Wilmerding Days
It’s safe to say that the 2016 Wilmerding Days event was a much bigger success for us than 2015. In addition to the things we’ve shown in this post, they have a parade each year, nightly live music, and even fireworks!! If you’re anywhere east of the ‘Burgh, keep the Wilmerding Days festival on your radar next June, it’s a wonderful weekend fair!
